There is a certain feeling to setting out on a canoe trip, especially if you're getting on the water before the sun gets too high. It has its own brand of anticipation. The far end of the lake beckons, but there's still some uncertainty in the sky.
I was thinking about how that makes you feel as you start each trip as I was working on this piece. For the next few days life comes to you not in carefully measured, prepackaged amounts, but as it will. I hope that feeling is captured here, because in this painting the viewer truly is ""Heading Out"".
